These one-of-a-kind children are the creative results of a self taught Idaho doll maker, artist, mother, and wife.  Born in 1957 in Grangeville, Idaho, Cyndy is the daughter of a logger and an artist.  Following in her mother’s artistic footsteps, Cyndy has been painting wildlife scenes and portraits since she was eleven. “I have always admired my mothers work.  She’s my best critic,” says Koerling, “She’d say it’s not quite right yet.  So, I would study it a while longer until I could see what was out of perspective.”  As a child Cyndy sculpted with natural clay found in her parent’s back yard.  “When I was about 13 I did my first sculpture of a milk maid and cow and a while later I sculpted a puppy.”  After high school Cyndy worked in a youth camp where she met her husband Bill.  They married in 1978 and have three children and three grandchildren.

About handmade baby dolls

She uses a mixture of Cernit, Sculpey, and colored Cernit to achieve the proper skin tones for the baby dolls.  The polymer baking compound has to be mixed thoroughly which can take anywhere from two to four hours to achieve.  “It usually takes four to six weeks to create a baby doll depending on the amount of orders that I have.  They have cloth bodies, a sculpted head, the eyes are glass and the hair is mohair, and the arms and legs are also sculpted.

To date Cyndy has sculpted close to sixty Indian baby dolls, numerous realistic and portrait newborn baby dolls and an incalculable amount of Tipi Tots, a smaller version of the baby dolls.  One of Cyndy’s more famous clients is  Demi Moore, who has purchased several dolls from Koerling.  “At first I didn’t realize who she was,” Cyndy admits, “I learned that Moore is a doll collector and I’m glad that my dolls are part of her collection.”  Cyndy’s dolls are one-of-a-kind and that makes them appealing to the collector.  She uses photos and actual measurements to make portrait newborn dolls. She is open to buyers ideas, listens to what they would like and can design most clothing and facial features to your desire.
